3 coursesAbout music school for children in Stockholm
Playing an instrument or singing gives children both joy and focus, and music training is often linked to a better ear, more patience and stronger teamwork. The offering in Stockholm is broad — from piano, guitar and violin to singing, drums and wind instruments — with courses for everyone from curious beginners to children who have already played for a few years.
For the youngest, music often begins with rhythmics and musical play, where singing, movement and simple instruments build a feel for beat and melody. From around six or seven, instrument lessons become more common, one to one or in small groups, and many children eventually play together in an ensemble or choir. Individual lessons give more personal feedback, while group teaching tends to be more social.
In Stockholm there is both the municipal Kulturskolan, with a broad offering at a low fee, and a range of private music schools and studios. When comparing courses, it is worth checking whether the teaching is individual or in a group and whether an instrument is needed or can be borrowed. Bear in mind that the most popular subjects can have waiting lists. Below you'll find current music courses with age and price where the provider states them.
The courses are aimed at children from age 2. Some courses accept the Fritidskort — this is shown on the individual course. Courses run during autumn.

FamGo Learn lists 18 music courses for children from 9 providers across the Stockholm area. You can compare price, age and how to sign up, then click through to the provider's own booking.
What do music courses for children cost?
Prices are set by each provider and vary between courses. Every course shows its own price where available — easy to compare in the list above.
Can I use the Fritidskort?
Some courses state that they accept the Fritidskort — the national subsidy for children aged 8–16. This is shown on the individual course.
From what age can children start music?
Rhythmics and musical play together with a parent are often available from a couple of years old, while instrument lessons usually begin at six or seven. Some instruments, such as the violin, can be started earlier through methods designed for young children. See each course for its current age range.
Does my child need their own instrument?
Not always. Instruments are often available during lessons, and some schools hire out instruments to practise on at home. Being able to practise between lessons helps children progress — check with the provider what applies for that particular course.
