How the Fritidskort works
The Fritidskort is a financial subsidy from the Swedish state for children and young people, used to pay for leader-led, recurring leisure activities at approved associations and municipal culture schools. To qualify, an activity must be leader-led and recurring — at least six occasions over a continuous period of up to six months. One-off drop-in sessions and private lessons normally do not count.
Since 10 August 2026, the Fritidskort applies to children from the year they turn 6 up to and including the year they turn 16. The subsidy is 550 kronor per child per year, or 2,500 kronor per child per year for families receiving housing allowance (bostadsbidrag) or housing supplement (bostadstillägg). The money can be used with associations and providers connected to the system, including in other municipalities as long as the provider is approved.
For most families, 550 kronor covers part of the term fee — you pay the rest as usual. If you receive housing allowance (bostadsbidrag) or housing supplement (bostadstillägg) the amount is 2,500 kronor, which covers most of the courses in the list below in full. Any amount left over can be used for further activities during the same year.
